This morning
on the melancholy train ride to Fribourg
I saw the pink clouds of dawn above the mountains.

And in an instant I was back
at that corner of Maude and Mary Avenue
under the red skies of California.

Which reminded me of Richard
who is now probably still up in Boston
working for Bose.

Tram number 9 crosses lonely the Kirchenfeldbrücke.

Behind the mist that rises silently above the hidden Aare,

The old city of Bern looks like a painting.

clear skies offer a pretty sight

not of mountains but airplanes

white vapor trails criss-crossing the blue

in a pattern of tic-tac-toes and stars.
